TVS Apache RTR with its shapely streamlined tank and engine design is really an eye stopper. Its smooth and flawless finish makes this bike desirable to the market.

Its tough but light 6 spoke black alloy wheels with red rims are really supportive for better control and excellent riding of this two wheeler. Its uniquely designed head lamp and turn signal lamps has become one of the best head turner in the market of two wheelers.

It has a uniquely alloy finished one piece brake pedals and levers that makes your drive an safe one on any sort of tarmac. The bike has an extraordinary racing stripes, luminous rims and race crouch mirrors that evokes the fantasy of any speed freak. Its aluminum foot pegs, split grab rails at the rear along with the silencer canister and beat gives it a complete touch of perfection.

Clamped on with a rather uninspiring nomenclature RTR 160 (cc) the new Apache, thank-fully, isn’t just a sticker job. Okay, the fuel tank and front fairing and wheels aren’t different, but you’re bound to notice the ‘racing intent’ even when you see it from a distance. In fact, so sure was the Apache design time about the bike’s visual appeal vis-as-vis the current 150cc version that they urged us to have a look from a distance first.

The new Apache RTRs’ instruments are digital, with rev counter remaining analogue. Twin trip recorders, a fuel counter, time-clock, digital speedometer, odometer, neutral icon, high beam icon, turn signal icon, low fuel warning system, low battery level and even a service due warning icon are on offer within this amber backlit display.

Classy touches are an alloy brake pedal and footrests. The Apache 160 retains an identical fuel tank and body panels, but has now upgraded to clear lens turn indicators, and an LED tail-light system on its raised stern. The rear fender and silencer exit area are altered while the numberplate region is now illuminated.
The old Apache motor adopts a new cowl and has undergone major changes, to up capacity from 147.5cc to 159.7cc on the new RTR. The larger capacity RTR uses the short-stroke mantra to become quicker revving. This air-cooled and twin-valve unit has received several internal tweaks, including attention lavished on its inlet and exhaust ends, clutch and gear processes as well as the combustion chamber. The gearbox remains a five-speed unit, shifting in the ubiquitous one-down and four-up pattern-the RTR 160 differing from the Apache 150 to use a sporty toe shift lever.

The RTR 160 is what TVS calls the new street-legal version of its competition Apache. What it means is it gets technology, like spherical combustion chamber, among other things, on the track coupled with law-dictated bits, like a saree guard!

RTR stands for Racing Throttle Response. Essentially, TVS Racing have been involved more than ever before in the development of this motorcycle. The engine has grown to 159.7cc and it’s more than an overbore. The motor’s stroke was cut down to 52.9 mm and then the bore grew to 62 mm. The RTR is rated at 15.2 bhp (at 8500 rpm) and 1.31 kgm (at 6000 rpm). On the track, the RTR proves to be a crisp flyer. Throttle response is immediate. The 160 will blow through 60 kph in 4.8 seconds, 100 kph in 17.69 seconds and reach a top speed of 118 kph.

India’s first petal disc bolted on the front axle. And instead of the usual 240 mm rotor, it wears a full 270 mm unit. That’s the same size as a Karizma. The disc is powerful and it produces seriously quick stopping action. The RTR also has two-way adjustable clip-on handlebars, LED tail lamp, rearset aluminium pegs and aluminium levers etc.
